New Year, New Start——2023
“Yuan Dan” falls on January 1st of
the Gregorian calendar. “Yuan Dan”, also known as New Year's Day, it is one of
the traditional holidays in China.
On New Year's Day, there are
various customary activities with special characteristics.
1. firecrackers
Firecrackers is a traditional
Chinese folklore, has a history of more than two thousand years. It is said to
drive away a monster called the year.
2. Ancestor worship
Ancestor worship is a grand
folklore activity. The form of ancestor worship varies according to the rituals
of different places. The Chinese do not forget to pay respects to their
ancestors during the holidays.
3. Eat dumplings
Dumplings are a must-have food on
New Year's Day, with a history of more than 1,800 years, to take the meaning of
"the new year's handover". Dumplings are a representative of Chinese
cuisine.
By today, New Year's Day has become
a regular holiday, usually with activities organized by groups, such as New
Year's Day gala, hanging banners celebrating New Year's Day, or holding group
activities. Most rural areas retain the traditional Chinese way of celebrating
New Year's Day, where families gather together to celebrate the festival every
New Year's Day.
